The mission of the department of Health and Nutrition Sciences is to provide undergraduate and graduate students with a high quality, multidisciplinary, critical perspective on foods and nutrition and community health; a perspective that is part of the liberal arts and sciences program at Brooklyn College. Knowledge in health and nutrition sciences includes, but is not limited to, an understanding of health systems, health and nutrition policy and program development, the social and natural components of health and disease, and health promotion. Undergraduate and graduate students are prepared through academic courses, internships, and research experiences to contribute as health professionals to the local, national, and international communities. Included in the mission are conducting research and advancing scientific knowledge relevant to health and nutrition and providing health promotion resources and programs for the professional community, Brooklyn College, and the community-at-large. The department endeavors to maintain an environment of academic excellence for students and faculty, where knowledge may grow and originality and creativity may thrive through teaching, research and community service.
