Private Lessons in Instruments and Voice

PIANO, GUITAR, VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO, FLUTE, OBOE, CLARINET, SAXOPHONE, PERCUSSION, VOICE, THEORY AND COMPOSITION

Private instruction promotes the growth of skills needed in learning to play an instrument, develop a beautiful singing voice, or compose music. The Preparatory Center works with the registrant to make a successful match between student and teacher. Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of total beginners as well as advanced performers. Students may begin lessons at any time during the calendar year, subject to teacher availability. Weekly recitals held throughout the year provide students with the opportunity to work toward goals and increase confidence. (30, 45, or 60 minutes weekly)

'Buddy' Lessons
Buddy lessons are offered in select instruments and voice. A maximum of two students ensures that each student receives a focused, clear foundation in his or her chosen instrument. (45 or 60 minutes weekly)

How to Read Music
This class is an introductory course in music fundamentals for those who have an interest in playing an instrument or studying voice, as well as for adults who already play or sing but have never had formal training. Emphasis is placed on learning how to read notes in the treble and bass clefs and understanding basic rhythmic notation. (60 minutes weekly)

Introduction to Cabaret Singing
This class is designed for adult singers who would like to explore the world of cabaret and musical theater literature. Emphasis is placed on song styling, improvisation, acting technique, and the development of a personal singing style. The class works towards an end-of-year performance at a cabaret venue in Manhattan. (90 minutes weekly)
