Dance Classes

Creative Movement/Pre-Ballet
Designed for children ages 3 to 4 as an introduction to dance, featuring ballet basics and coordination exercises.  The class also provides an opportunity for children to interact with other children in their age group. (45 minutes weekly)

Ballet
The classical ballet curriculum is designed as a sequential course of study and allows students to progress at an individual pace. Students are required to wear leotards, tights, and ballet shoes. Placement consultation required. (60 minutes weekly – Level I and II; 90 minutes weekly – Level III and IV)

Level I introduces students to the fundamentals of ballet technique with exercises that develop musicality, coordination, and listening skills.

Level II builds on skills acquired in Level I with exercises emphasizing flexibility and correct alignment.

Level III introduces students to intermediate level exercises in order to develop strength and agility.

Level IV focuses on advanced exercises and combinations to further strengthen and stretch the body. Placement consultation required.

Tap
Tap dance classes provide the training that allows students to progress from the basic steps and rhythmic study to advanced footwork and rhythmic skills. (60 minutes weekly)

Beginners Tap emphasizes developing  an ear for rhythm and introduces terms and concepts.

Intermediate Tap fine-tunes students’ ability to listen to the other dancers and more advanced steps are studied with students’ increased foot coordination and rhythmic awareness. 

Advanced Tap continues with more complex steps and introduces improvisational tap dancing and choreography. Placement consultation required. 

Modern Dance
A mix of the basic principles of ballet technique and contemporary movement. Students will learn proper placement and articulation of the joints in warm-up exercises, balance and centering of the torso, and fall and recovery with the use of body weight and gravity. Students will also explore shape, use of space, movement dynamics and structured improvisation in individual and group exercises. Students should be barefoot and wear comfortable clothes. (60 minutes weekly)
