Dance Classes

Creative Movement
Designed for children ages 3 to 4 as an introduction to dance, featuring ballet basics and coordination exercises. This class also provides an opportunity for children to interact with others in their age group. (45 minutes weekly)
Intro to Dance
For children ages 4 to 5, this class works on the development of physical skills through rhythmic exercises and games that draw on the child's imagination. Students learn to translate verbal instruction into physical action. No dance experience required, but one year of Creative Movement is recommended. (45 minutes weekly)
Ballet
The classical ballet curriculum is designed as a sequential course of study and allows students to progress at an individual pace. Students are required to wear leotards, tights, and ballet shoes. Placement consultation required. (60 minutes weekly)
Pre-Ballet first class in the new ballet curriculum for children age 5 to 7; no dance class experience is required but Creative Movement and/or Intro to Dance are recommended
Level A introduces students to the fundamentals of ballet technique with exercises that develop musicality, coordination, and listening skills.
Level B builds on skills acquired in Level I with exercises emphasizing flexibility and correct alignment.
Level C introduces students to intermediate level exercises in order to develop strength and agility.
Level D focuses on advanced exercises and combinations to further strengthen and stretch the body. Placement consultation required.
Tap
Tap dance classes provide the training that allows students to progress from the basic steps and rhythmic study to advanced footwork and rhythmic skills. (60 minutes weekly)
Modern Dance
A mix of the basic principles of ballet technique and contemporary movement. Students will learn proper placement and articulation of the joints in warm-up exercises, balance and centering of the torso, and fall and recovery with the use of body weight and gravity. Students will also explore shape, use of space, movement dynamics and structured improvisation in individual and group exercises. Students should be barefoot and wear comfortable clothes. (60 minutes weekly)
