Theater Classes

College Audition Prep Class
Specifically designed for high school seniors auditioning for college B.F.A. in musical theater, acting, and other related degree programs. Students will be offered guidance in the selection of their songs and monologues to showcase their talent effectively. Emphasis will be placed on staging and bringing the material up to audition level. Please note: 8th graders auditioning for arts high schools may interview for acceptance into the class. (2 hours weekly, Fall Semester only. Maximum of 4 students)

Theater Games and Improvisation
Designed for students who are interested in exploring the dramatic arts in a stress-free, fun-filled environment. An introduction to acting skills through theater games, story dramatization, improvisation, and movement. Emphasis is placed on developing the actor's imagination. This class is appropriate for children ages 6 through 9 and can form a basis for future theater study. Students perform at least twice a year. Theater Games and Improvisation can be repeated. (60 minutes weekly)

Theater Workshop and Performance
Class I, Ages 9 to 12
Class II, Ages 13 to 18

This class emphasizes the development of tools that lead to the creation of believable and vibrant characters. Students learn to master the basic principles of objective/obstacle, given circumstance, inner monologue, sense memory, and emotional recall. Young actors explore written texts and improvisational monologues and scenes, which are presented in performance twice a year. Theater Workshop and Performance can be repeated. (90 minutes weekly)

Musical Theater Workshop and Performance
Class I, Ages 9 to 12
Class II, Ages 13 to 18

Designed to introduce students to vocal production, rhythm, and movement. Students learn classic songs from the musical theater repertoire with an emphasis on interpretation and phrasing. Two performances during the year feature solo and ensemble numbers. (90 minutes weekly)

Voice Class
Designed for students ages 13 to 18 whose primary interest is in developing all aspects of their theater craft. Students will explore the pitch, volume, articulation, and resonance of their voices using a variety of breathing, relaxation, and alignment exercises. Repertoire includes unstaged solos and medleys from musical theater. Students have the opportunity to perform twice during the year. Emphasis is placed on developing each individual's voice to its fullest potential. (90 minutes weekly)
