As the final act in the drawn-out process of self-study and external evaluation, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education voted at its regular meeting last month to extend Brooklyn College’s accreditation through 2019. The Commission, acting on the recommendation of the visiting team, chaired by R. Barbara Gitenstein, president of The College of New Jersey, cited significant progress in more than a dozen areas, including the accomplishments of the faculty, the revision of the core curriculum, leadership in academic computing and information technology, a successful fundraising campaign, and innovative freshmen initiatives. The report also made several suggestions for improvement.
