Panel Discussion: Dealing With Emotionally Distressed Students |
| DESCRIPTION: |
Occasionally, a student will behave in the classroom in a way that disrupts the class and makes teaching very difficult. We invite you to a panel discussion that will help you determine the most appropriate resource and manner in which to handle an incident. The panel will be led by Salome Heyward, Esq., a nationally recognized disability and discrimination law expert. Other panelists include representatives from the following areas: Judicial Affairs, Personal Counseling, Legal Affairs, and the Center for Student Disability Services.
The panel will discuss the following topics:
• How to address escalating behavior
• What constitutes challenging behavior
• How to effectively respond to challenging behavior
• Policies and legal procedures for accommodating students with psychiatric disabilities
