The Headscarf, Symbolic Exclusion and the "Arabo-Muslim" in France.
Dr. Shazia Iftkhar's research and
teaching interests lie in the areas of
race/ethnicity, gender and religion in
relation to citizenship and nation as
well as in questions of communication,
identity and the public sphere.
Current research critically examines
national debate around the Muslim
headscarf in France, examining narratives
on French identity and secularism,
and the place of Islam in
France, in news coverage and interviews.
