Business Management of Sports 

DESCRIPTION: Alumnus Jeffrey Fried will be speaking to Professor Grillo’s class. He has agreed to allow other students to attend the session. Mr. Fried will be discussing the business management of sports. ----------------------------------- Jeffrey S. Fried was elected to the Foundation board at the June 2009 meeting for a three-year term beginning in July, 2009. An attorney and certified public accountant, he has been involved in the commercial and legal aspects of corporate finance and sports and entertainment transactions for over twenty years. In 1994 Jeff established Fried & Company, a Washington, DC based firm comprised of attorneys, management personnel and other industry professionals specializing in the representation of corporate interests, athletes and entertainers, media interests and the promotion of worldwide sports and entertainment events. His firm represents some of the premier clients in the sports and entertainment industry, and is involved in diverse national and international financing transactions within Russia, Jamaica, Nigeria, Thailand, Argentina and throughout the Caribbean. The firm’s diversity undertakings include the creation of a Television show entitled “ShotCallers,” depicting a wide variety of inspirational role models for inner city youth; of which the central theme is “achieving success with a briefcase in hand instead of a basketball or a microphone...” Jeff has authored on a variety of commercial and sports/entertainment topics, including “The Sweet Science, Legally Speaking (Professional Boxing)” published by Marquette Sports Law Association and The New York State Bar Association. Jeff received the Frederick Douglass Community Service Medallion from The New York Urban League and served as Executive Co-Chairman of the Sports Committee of The Entertainment & Sports Division, New York State Bar Association. He is a Founding Member of the National Association of Attorneys General Task Force on Boxing Reform. His philanthropic and community activities include The Foundation for Exceptional Children, DC Special Olympics, Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Mickey Mantle School and The Potomac Resource Center for Asperger’s Syndrome. With over twenty years experience in worldwide boxing promotions, Jeff is enthusiastic about assisting the Foundation in creating further exposure and potentially meaningful commercialization from the Kaplan Boxing Collection in the Brooklyn College Archives.
