| DESCRIPTION: | ISAM Series The Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium Presents The 9th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival: “Brooklyn - In the JAZZ Tradition” Concert and Jam Session with The New Cookers The Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium is an amalgam of jazz musicians, venue owners, churches, community-based organizations, and music patrons. Over the past nine years, they have presented an annual spring festival (of which this concert is one of the final events), established a Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame, and produced yearly programs of events and activities that feature local jazz musical talents. The New Cookers (named after a famous recording by Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan, “The Night of the Cookers,” recorded live in Brooklyn in 1965) is a group of rising stars in Brooklyn’s jazz community that includes trumpeter Kenyatta Beasley and pianist Anthony Wonsey. The ensemble references the hard bop and free jazz of the 1950s and 1960s, while transforming its rhythm and energy into an exhilarating new sound. The concert will be preceded by a presentation on Brooklyn’s significance to jazz history by Jeffrey Taylor, I.S.A.M. Director, and followed by an informal discussion and jam session with members of The New Cookers. | ||
