Sustainable Urban Aquaponics: Brooklyn College Research Addresses the Global Food Crisis

DESCRIPTION: The Brooklyn College Sustainability Roundtable and the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies invite you to attend: The media screams daily of food shortages, famine, tainted products, diverted crops, wasted energy, challenged ecosystems and depleted resources. There are ways to effectively respond to this global food crisis with old and new approaches to responsible sustainable agriculture and aquaculture. Distinguished Professor Emeritus Martin P. Schreibman is the founder and director emeritus of the Aquatic Research and Environmental Assessment Center (AREAC) at Brooklyn College. A recognized expert on the physiology of fishes, Prof. Schreibman has drawn world-wide attention for his proposal that New York and other urban centers can combine urban fisheries with urban gardens to support sustainable food production. Come learn how urban “fish farms” can make their way off of the drawing board and into your neighborhood. A light supper will be provided. Please RSVP, and direct questions to Prof. Mark Kobrak, Department of Chemistry, Brooklyn College 718.951.5758,
