| TITLE: |
The House of Bernarda Alba |
| DESCRIPTION: |
Directed by Cathy Shaw
Bernarda Alba is an oppressive matriarch in a Spanish village. After her husband’s death, she imposes an eight year period of mourning upon her family of five daughters. This house arrest is resisted by her youngest daughter, who loves a local merchant already promised to her eldest sister via arranged marriage. The youngest daughter is betrayed by her other sisters systematically until the play ends in a cruel reminder that “a house divided against itself cannot stand.”
