Core Curriculum Lecture Series Presents: Whose Barrio? |
| DESCRIPTION: |
A film by Ed Morales and Laura Rivera. Screening and discussion. The film follows the stories of José Rivera and James Garcia, who represent the old guard and the newcomers in the neighborhood, respectively. Longtime East Harlem tenant James Barrow worries that a series of crane accidents in the city may strike home because of a construction project next door. Movement for Justice in El Barrio organizers have come to the aid of tenants in housing overseen by Dawnay Day Group, a multinational developer based in London. Co-director Ed Morales is a journalist who has covered New York politics and cultures over the last 20 years as a staff writer at the Village Voice. He is also a contributor to the New York Times, Newsday, The Nation, and the Progressive Media Project. |
