Declaration of Major

Declaring your major is an important step in your academic career, and Brooklyn College offers more than 70 undergraduate programs for you to choose from. As you make your plans, please keep in mind the major declaration deadlines on the academic calendar.

How to Declare a Major

On your admissions application, you may have selected a major that requires an additional step to be officially declared. If you have applied for any of the majors listed below, follow the Change Major/Minor instructions below to re-declare your major. Without re-declaration, you will not be allowed to graduate with your selected major.

Change Major/Minor

To change your major or minor:

  1. Log onto your Brooklyn College WebCentral account.
  2. Go to E-Services.
  3. Select Undergraduate Student Transactions.
  4. Select “Declare or change your major, minor or concentration.”
  5. Select the major or minor you wish to change.

Additionally, students with fewer than 60 credits can change their major to undeclared. Go to the Declaration of Major queue and select Undeclared as an option by following the steps below.

Undeclare (Drop) Major/Minor

To remove (drop) a major or minor:

  1. Log onto your Brooklyn College WebCentral account.
  2. Go to E-Services.
  3. Select Undergraduate Student Transactions.
  4. Select Declare or change your major, minor, or concentration.
  5. Select the major or minor you wish to drop and select Change. You then change that major or minor to Undeclared.

Brooklyn College policy requires that you have a major at your 60th earned credit. Students who do not have a major at their 60th earned credit will have a hold placed on their CUNYfirst record preventing them from registering for classes or making changes to their schedule.

Add Major/Minor

To add a major or minor:

  1. Log onto your Brooklyn College WebCentral account.
  2. Go to E-Services.
  3. Select Undergraduate Student Transactions.
  4. Select Declare or change your major, minor, or concentration.
  5. Follow the directions and prompts on the screen to declare or change your major or minor.
