Calculus Placement Test
The Calculus Placement Test is administered to students who have demonstrated proficiency in algebra by taking and passing the CUNY Assessment Test in Pre-Algebra and Algebra or have met the university's math exemption criteria.
Students planning to major in biology, business, chemistry, computer and information science, geology, mathematics or physics are required to take a test to determine their placement in the precalculus/calculus sequence. The test is administered via computer; consists of algebra, college algebra and trigonometry items; and is untimed. Calculator use is permitted. The score on this test is used for placement only and has no bearing on admission to the college.
You should take this test if you:
- are planning to major in biology, business, chemistry, computer and information science, geology, mathematics or physics,
- are majoring in another department but are planning to take physics or more advanced mathematics courses (e.g., you are planning to apply to medical school), or
- would like to take more advanced math courses as electives.
