The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation and other generous donors understand that life is full of unexpected events--some of which can create serious hardships for students and their families.
Petrie Student Emergency Grants provide financial support to students so that life's emergencies don't derail their college educations.
Information provided by students is primarily used for CUNY staff to determine if applicants meet eligibility requirements for emergency funding and whether applicants can be connected to other support resources. In addition, data provided as part of students' applications will be used, in aggregate, for research purposes by the Petrie Foundation to analyze school and university level need patterns and student outcomes. Students' personal information will not be shared externally.
All currently enrolled students at participating CUNY colleges are eligible to apply. Examples of qualifying emergencies include:
- Illness
- Loss of property or income
- Death of a family member
- Victim of an accident or crime
Grants awarded through the Petrie Student Emergency Funds may be used solely for non-tuition expenses. Funds DO NOT need to be repaid.
After submitting this online application, you will be contacted by the grant administrator at your college.
Please note, by submitting an application a student is not guaranteed to receive an emergency grant.
The next steps in the process may include an interview and/or a request for supporting documentation of your emergency.
