A Modern Fitness Center Right at Your Doorstep
Want to take some healthy steps this year? Then check out the recreational and athletic facilities in the West Quad Center. If you’re an undergraduate student, the amenities are free; a modest fee is required for all other students. And for faculty and staff? For a fraction of the cost of neighboring health and sports clubs, you could be in better shape before you put away your winter coat.
What you will find in the center is a 2,000-square-foot fitness room equipped with the latest aerobic and weight machines. The room has a sparkling view of the quads and, regardless of how many people are working out, is quiet and clean.
Not so quiet is the two-court practice gym where fast and furious pick-up games seem to form throughout the day. Basketballs are provided at the recreational desk in the basement, and then you’re on your own to join in on the action or just shoot hoops on the side of the court. For racquetball and squash fans, three courts in the basement accept reservations for your games.
You can also come to the competition basketball court to cheer on our winning Division III men’s and women’s volleyball and basketball teams. The Bulldogs have been racking up sizable wins this year. Just recently, Priscilla Ramirez was named the CUNY Athletic Conference/Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar Athlete of the Month. A graduate student in sports management, she not only maintains a 3.50 GPA, but averages 15.5 points per game.
The swimming pool is not just for our men's and women's swimming and diving teams. When they're not in action or practicing, you can take a few laps and practice different strokes in your own lane.
The facilities are open seven days a week. The only thing you’ll need to bring with you besides your gym clothes and ID card is a towel; locks for the many lockers are provided.
