Lights Out Advisory
CUNYfirst is almost here…but first it’s “Lights Out”!
CUNYfirst will become the college’s new student information system in April. It will be the culmination of almost a year of preparatory work by Brooklyn College and CUNY staff.
While our data is being migrated into CUNYfirst, there will be a period of time during which our existing systems will not be available. This period, called Lights Out, will begin on March 22 and will last until approximately April 7.
During Lights Out, many normal transactions will have to be deferred until after the migration is completed and the college is live on CUNYfirst. Please note, however, that the Brooklyn College WebCentral portal, Brooklyn College e-mail, Blackboard and Sakai should not be affected and will continue to be available.
The service advisories below will apply during Lights Out.
The Office of the Bursar will not be accepting online payments. Payments via check, cash or money order will be accepted at the bursar counter of the Enrollment Services Center (ESC) but will not be reflected on student accounts until after the conversion is completed.
Student refunding will not be available. Outstanding refunds will be processed following the completion of the conversion process.
Official bills for tuition and fees will no longer be available from bursar representatives in person. To request an official bill, e-mail your request.
Applications for summer and fall 2013 will be collected, reviewed and processed after the conversion is completed.
Online credentials transcript ordering system requests and paper ESC requests will continue to be processed.
Applications will be collected and processed after the conversion is completed.
The online application will continue its function, with processing deferred until after the conversion is completed.
Declaring a Major
The online system will continue to collect declarations of majors, minors and concentrations, with processing deferred until after the conversion is completed.
Withdrawing From a Course
The existing online tool will be available until the April 12 deadline. Thereafter, students will be able to submit requests directly into CUNYfirst.
Filing for Graduation/Degree Audit
These filings can be done manually at the ESC during Lights Out.
This system will be retired. Students will register for courses and file for graduation directly in CUNYfirst in the future.
