Scope
Requirements for contractors conducting essential work on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic.
NYC Department of Buildings Guidance
Project managers must ensure contractors adhere to NYC Department of Buildings Project Safety Guidance (pdf).
Minimum Requirements
All construction-involved entities are required to adhere to local, state, and federal requirements for construction activities as well as following Brooklyn college construction safety requirements. Such entities are also accountable for adhering to New York State minimum requirements set out in the NYS Detailed Guidelines for Construction (pdf) during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Contractors are responsible for staying current with any updates to these requirements as well as incorporating same into any construction activities and/or Site Safety Plan. Requirements include:
- Provide face covering to employees for use on campus and ensure adherence to guidance.
- Procedures to address symptomatic and infected employees, including health screenings.
- Use social distancing in all work practices and jobs assignments.
- Establish general jobsite practices.
- Utilize personal protection equipment (PPE).
- Sanitize reusable PPE per manufacturer's recommendation prior to each use.
- Do not share PPE.
- Ensure used PPE and other trash is disposed of properly.
- Do not use a common water cooler.
- Do not share tools.
- Disinfect reusable supplies and equipment.
- Don't stack trades, if possible.
- Encourage hand and respiratory hygiene.
- Perform routine cleaning/disinfecting of jobsite, including frequently touched surfaces.
- Notify Brooklyn College of confirmed case(s) found on the jobsite.
Campus Access Guidance
When possible, contractor shall conduct business remotely.
Contractor shall produce a schedule as early as feasible containing:
- A timetable
- Approximate project length (weeks, days)
- Number of personnel on site
Advise Public Safety and Environmental Health and Safety of:
- Project schedule
- Dates, times of access required
- Campus locations to be accessed
- Work being performed
Contractor / Contractor's employees will not be permitted on campus if:
- any employee has returned from international travel within the last 14 days,
- has signs or symptoms of a respiratory illness (e.g., cough, fever, difficulty breathing, other flu or cold-like symptoms), or
- has recent contact with confirmed/suspected case of COVID-19, or sick with respiratory illness
Contractor shall produce a daily report containing the following information:
- Project name
- Names of those personnel working on-site for the project
- Work done that day
Contractor Conduct
- Manager(s) are required to be on site while work is being performed.
- Contractor must abide by face covering and social distancing guidance (maintaining six feet separation from others).
- Contractor must practice proper hand washing / respiratory hygiene.
- Contractor must have access to proper sanitary facilities while on campus.
- Use restrooms available for visitors. Using restrooms in other areas is prohibited.
Brooklyn College Employee Guidance
Employees having close contact with contractors must wear face covering and should have access to hygiene supplies including:
- Hand sanitizer
- Surface wipes
- Tissues
- Gloves
Employees must practice social distancing and proper respiratory / hand washing hygiene.
