Garden Plot Holders

A garden plot holder is a gardener who is assigned a specific plot to garden for the duration of a year.  Members of the Brooklyn College community (students, faculty and staff), as well as individuals who live in the neighborhood immediately surrounding the college, are eligible to apply for a garden plot. Students who cannot demonstrate prior gardening experience may be asked to share a plot with another student or another eligible individual during their first growing season.

All individuals requesting plots or interested in participating in other garden tasks, such as composting, should complete an application form each year with full contact information.

Plots will be made available as follows: Individuals who live in the neighborhood immediately surrounding Brooklyn College will be eligible for one third of available plots; Brooklyn College students, faculty and staff will be eligible for the remaining two thirds of available plots. Plots may not be transferred to other individuals.

Starting in 2013, plots will be assigned by a lottery system. The plot application period begins Feb. 15, 2014. and ends March 15, 2014. A limited number of raised plots will be made available on a need basis and assigned by lottery. Gardeners are asked to submit requests for raised plots along with their application. Plot assignments for 2014 will be announced after the lottery on March 16. Winter gardeners are responsible for clearing their plots by that date or for making other arrangements with their plot's new gardener. Any plots not assigned on March 16 will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis. No gardener can hold or share more than one plot. Should there be more applications than plots, returning gardeners in good standing are assigned plots before new gardeners, who may join a waiting list.
