Associate Provost for Academic Programs
Brooklyn College, part of the City University of New York, invites inquiries, nominations, and expressions of interest for the position of Associate Provost for Academic Programs. Under the leadership of President Karen L. Gould and Provost William Tramontano, Brooklyn College is experiencing an exciting and ambitious period of renewal and expansion to address the changing educational landscape and to meet the needs of students in New York State and beyond.
Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Associate Provost for Academic Programs will collaborate with faculty and appropriate campus leaders to provide administrative leadership for the following programmatic areas and initiatives. The Associate Provost will be expected to: manage and coordinate all first and second year undergraduate student retention efforts to ensure academic success including academic support services; oversee all college-based academic foundations and general education programs and CUNY-funded general education initiatives; lead the academic advisement services for all entering undergraduate students and undeclared majors; ensure that the Brooklyn College Honors programs continue to flourish and that the College continues as a prominent participant in the CUNY Macaulay Honors College; augment the academic elements of the High-Impact Educational Experience program; expand the current Study Abroad program and incorporate International and Global Education Initiatives; oversee the Center for Diversity and Multiculturalism; coordinate Academic Affairs responses to issues related to student complaints; direct efforts to obtain external funding for college-wide instruction; support faculty to implement policies and procedures on academic integrity for all students; work closely with appropriate campus leaders and faculty governance committees to ensure that services to students that support retention and graduation are carefully planned and implemented; serve on appropriate college governance and university committees and task forces.
For this important administrative position, the College seeks an innovative and knowledgeable academic leader who will work with faculty, staff and students to promote a positive and collaborative campus climate. The ideal candidate will be an intellectual leader and educator with a distinguished record of scholarship in her/his field, hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree and have experience or familiarity with curriculum development, undergraduate instruction and budgetary management. Appointment to this position will be at the rank of associate or full professor, and tenure may be granted upon appointment, depending on qualifications and experience.
This is a particularly exciting period of remarkable evolution and growth for Brooklyn College, which recently created four new schools, each led by an inaugural dean responsible for articulating a vision and developing a strategy for the College’s continued expansion and success.
