Annual and Sick Leave

Below is a summary of annual and sick leave. To submit a request for Annual Leave, please click here.

For the Employee Holiday Schedule Calendar, please click here.

College Assistant

Annual Leave

You are entitled to receive annual leave if you work 500 or more hours in a fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). You will be credited with one hour of annual leave for every 15 hours worked during the year of employment. At the fifth year of employment, annual leave is earned at the rate of one hour for every 11 hours worked. However, in the first three years, annual leave is not accrued until the 501st hour has been worked. Annual leave may be taken at any point after you have accrued it, with your supervisor's prior approval. All unused annual leave will be paid at the end of each fiscal year.

Sick Leave

You are entitled to receive sick leave if you work 500 or more hours in a fiscal year. You will be credited with one hour of sick leave for every 20 hours worked. Sick leave may be used only for your personal illness. Excessive use of sick leave will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resource Services. Unused sick leave may be accrued from year to year without limitation. A physician's certificate is required for illness extending for three or more consecutive working days, and for each month in the case of prolonged illness.

Civil Service

Annual Leave

The annual leave period is from September 1 through August 31.

A full month's credit for annual leave earnings shall be given to an employee who has been in full pay status for at least 15 calendar days during that month. Annual leave balances may be accrued to two times the maximum annual leave allowance. All excess annual leave above the maximum on August 31 will be converted to sick leave as of September 1 of each year. New employees are permitted to take approved annual leave after completing four months of service.

Note: Skilled Trades/220 titled employees vary in the amount of annual, sick, holiday leave, and compensatory time they may accrue. Employees in these titles should check with the Office of Human Resource Services to determine what they are entitled to.

The annual leave allowance for employees in a title or an agency covered by the Leave Regulations shall accrue as follows:

Work Week Years of Service Monthly Accrual Allowance
35 hours First year 1 day, 1 hour, 45 minutes 15 days
Beginning of 5th year 1 day, 4 hours, 40 minutes 20 days
Beginning of 8th year 2 days, 35 minutes 25 days
Beginning of 15th year 2 days, 1 hour, 45 minutes 27 days

Sick Leave

Sick leave allowance shall be given to an employee who has been in full pay status for at least 15 days during the month.

The sick leave allowance for all blue- and white-collar employees shall accrue as one day per month for a total of 12 days per year. The number of sick leave days permitted to accumulate shall be unlimited. New employees accumulate one day of sick leave a month after working for one full month for a total of 12 days per year. Approved sick leave may be used as it accrues for all full-time employees.

Compensatory Time

Employees may earn up to 240 hours per year in compensatory time. The compensatory time must be used within 90 days of being earned, or it will be added to the sick leave balance. There is no carry-over of compensatory time from year to year. Use of compensatory time is scheduled by the supervisor.
