Maintain F-1 Status

International students who are studying in the college should know the requirements of maintaining their F-1 Visa. You have to read the Guide to Maintaining F-1 Visa before you drop the courses.

If you have any reasons to drop the courses, you have to contact DSO in the International Student and Scholar Services and fill out the Reduced Course Load Application.

If you are out of F-1 Visa status, you have to read the Reinstatement to F-1 Status and contact DSO in the International Student and Scholar Services.

If you have any reasons to extend your program, you have to fill out the Request Form for F-1 Program Extension and bring to International Student and Scholar Services.

J-1 Visa Students

International students applying for a J-1 visa are usually exchange, government sponsored or visiting students at Brooklyn College. E-mail us for assistance with applying for your DS-2019 or with any questions regarding the J-1 process. For other J-1s, including international scholars and researchers, e-mail Alison Guerin.

We have a DS-2019 application packet that all students seeking a J-1 visa must complete. If you have any questions, the Office of International Student and Scholar Services is here to help.

Students interested in attending Brooklyn College as an international visiting student should first e-mail International Student and Scholar Services or call us at 718.951.4477. We will assist you with the process.
