Eligibility Requirements

The student must be in one of the following three categories:

  • September 2012 graduate (completed all degree requirements by Sept. 1, 2012).
  • February 2013 graduate (will have completed all degree requirements by Feb. 1, 2013).
  • June 2013 candidate for graduation* (will have completed all degree requirements by June 1, 2013, as indicated by their degree audit). (Note: Degree audit filing deadline is March 15, 2013.)

* June 2013 candidates should not wait for formal departmental thesis approval to begin the commencement process.

Addendum

A master’s student with a graduation date of September 2013 and with a maximum of one course or a final academic requirement (e.g., thesis, final clinical hours) to complete in the summer may request permission "to walk" at the 2013 Master’s Commencement Ceremony.

Those with a course to complete must be registered for the appropriate course for summer 2013. Such requests must be made only after registration for summer 2013 has been completed. Those with a final academic requirement to complete which does not require course registration must document that this is the only requirement remaining to complete for September graduation. This can be done through a departmental letter.

Those requesting permission will be asked to complete a petition to walk application and provide appropriate documentation (e.g., Degree Progress report, departmental form ) to verify their status. If permission is granted, the student should be aware that his or her name may not appear in the 2013 Commencement Program.

For Those September Petitioners Requesting Overseas Letters For The Ceremony:

September graduates who are also requesting overseas guest letters must submit their online overseas letter application by April 19, 2013 (prior to the summer registration period). Upon submission, the student must sign an agreement that affirms his/her intention to register for the required summer course(s) by April 28.  The requested overseas guest letters will be held until the student sends a verification of hi/her registration (e.g., copy of bill).
