Device Loan Requests/Returns

Device Loan Program

Brooklyn College is committed to giving students access to the technology they need to complete their course work in the distance learning environment. In collaboration with CUNY, the college is providing devices under the technology loan program. If you are a student and do not have access to a computer or the Internet, Brooklyn College has Chromebooks or iPads and T-Mobile Hotspots that can be loaned to you.

The loan period is the duration of your enrollment at Brooklyn College. Send us an e-mail if you have any questions regarding the program.

Device Request

How do I request a device?

If you are a student in need of a device, fill out the CUNY Student Technology Needs Survey. (Note: This is ONLY for currently enrolled students.)

We will do our best to accommodate your request; however, we have very limited quantities and types of devices to loan. We will reply to your request within 24 to 48 hours, e-mailing you an online device loan agreement that you will be required to electronically sign and submit to us. Once you do this, we will prepare the device for shipping. Please allow up to 10 days to receive the device. Remember to retain the box your device is shipped in to reuse when returning your device. View a sample agreement (pdf).

Device Distribution Safety

What safety measures are in place for the Device Program?

The college is taking several precautions to ensure the safety of device distributions. The overall campus environment is kept healthy and clean by restricting access to people who complete reentry safety training and a daily health screening. Operations are in locations with good ventilation and/or in locations with enhanced air quality. Contamination of surfaces is minimized by making face coverings mandatory and promoting hand hygiene practices. High-touch surfaces on campus are also cleaned and disinfected several times throughout the day.

Although the CDC states that spread from touching surfaces is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, Brooklyn College is using a four-step process to disinfect devices in order to minimize the risk:

  1. The device is disinfected by ITS staff before they are queued for distribution.
  2. During disinfection, staff wear face coverings and gloves.
  3. After disinfection, the devices are protected from further cross-contamination by immediately boxing and packaging the device for shipping.
  4. Once queued, the devices are in quarantine for 72 hours before shipping.

Device Return

How do I request my free prepaid shipping label?

To initiate a return and receive your free prepaid return shipping label, please email Device Return. A UPS shipping label will be emailed to you within 24 to 48 hours. Labels can only be offered electronically.

Note: Only one label is needed to return multiple items. Return shipping labels expire five days after being issued. Prepaid return shipping labels cannot be generated for requests placed with an APO/FPO address or any locations outside the 50 U.S. states.

You can include all items in one box. Please ensure that each device has sufficient padding for protection. Print and place the shipping label on the package containing your return and drop the item off or arrange a pick up by UPS. The package must be accepted by the shipping carrier within five days of the return request. Allow up to five business days for the return to be completed once it is received at our facility. You will receive a delivery confirmation e-mail when the device has been processed by the Device Return program.

If you are located outside of the 50 U.S. states, please ship your device via a carrier of your choice with tracking to:

Brooklyn College
c/o Device Returns
2900 Bedford Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11210

Important: After shipping, send an e-mail to Device Return that includes your CUNYfirst EMPL ID and the BRO or Barcode Number that is affixed to the device. This will facilitate the tracking and processing of your return.
