New Resources

President's Brief | November 2020

In her November 2020 President's Brief, President Anderson announced the following additional resources and new services for students:

  • The Personal Counseling Office has hired additional counselors to see more students. E-mail Personal Counseling for more information.
  • The Health Clinic is now also open for in-person visits, particularly for prescriptions and the flu shot. E-mail the Health Clinic for more information.
  • The Computer Lab and additional study spaces are now open in the West End Building.
  • Virtual Study Hall is being offered through the library.
  • The Brooklyn College Early Childhood Center is currently offering virtual classrooms for children of students, faculty, and staff, ages infancy through second grade.

Cellular Services

AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Comcast have announced additional services during the coronavirus outbreak, such as the removal of data caps and waiver of late fees. Students should check with their individual carriers for these arrangements.

Center for Academic Advisement and Student Success | 718.951.5471 | Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Effective immediately and until further notice, all in-person advisement appointments will instead be conducted remotely via telephone or video conferencing. To schedule a remote advisement appointment:

  • Log in to the Brooklyn College WebCentral Portal.
  • Click "E-Services."
  • Select "Schedule an appointment."
  • Select "Center for Academic Advisement and Student Success Appointment Tool (CAAT)" to choose a date and time.

Be sure to enter a preferred phone number when scheduling your appointment. At the scheduled time, an adviser from the center or First College Year will call you at the number you provide. Note: The incoming call may appear as "unknown caller" and not necessarily read as Brooklyn College.

ePermits

Internet Access

Charter Communications and Altice USA are offering free broadband services to students taking online classes. Both providers cover different parts of New York City.

Charter offers free high-speed Spectrum Internet service and Wi-Fi for 60 days to households with students taking online classes because of the coronavirus outbreak. Students can call 844.488.8395 to enroll. Installation fees will be waived for new student households, the company said. Regular pricing will take effect at the end of the 60-day period if a customer does not cancel or change the service. The Charter press release contains more information.

Altice USA offers Altice Advantage 30 Mbps broadband service for free to college students without Internet service for 60 days. Eligible students can call 866.200.9522 to enroll. The Altice blog post contains more information.

Verizon Innovative Learning Schools Connection has a number of resources, including tips to prepare for and implement robust digital learning plans.

Verizon's partner Digital Promise has COVID-19 online learning resources and an FAQ section.

During the COVID-19 response, your library books will be automatically renewed, fines will be suspended, and Inter-Library Loan (ILL) books and New Media Center equipment can be returned at the end of the semester. Zoom Virtual Study Hall

The Enrollment Services Center (ESC) is dedicated to supporting Brooklyn College students as they pursue their educational goals. During the health crisis, the ESC will have limited hours. Check the website for up-to-date hours of operation or e-mail the ESC.

Most documents can now be submitted online through our new Dynamic Forms system, which can be accessed through the Brooklyn College WebCentral portal. The computing infrastructure at Brooklyn College is one of the most advanced in CUNY. These systems support applications in all disciplines and are used by students and faculty to access critical administrative data. Information Technology Services provides support to students, faculty and administration through the Help Desk and on site.

The Office of International Student and Scholar Services assists international students and scholars with visa and immigration processes and compliance, provides referrals to both on- and off-campus resources, and serves as an advocate for international students.

If you are entering college for the first time and need a little extra help, the Percy Ellis Sutton SEEK Program will assist you every step of the way.

SEEK Learning and Study Center (SLSC) | 718.951.5135 | Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

The focus of the SEEK Learning and Study Center (SLSC) is to support the education and elevation of knowledge for SEEK participants. Whether the student considers himself or herself to be a strong or weak student, the SLSC commits to working with the student to attain a desirable academic outcome.

The Black and Latino Male Initiative (BLMI) is a project of the CUNY-wide Black Male Initiative, implemented to increase, encourage, and support the inclusion and educational success of students from groups that are severely underrepresented in higher education, particularly African, African American/black, Caribbean, and Latino/Hispanic men. BLMI embodies Brooklyn College's mission through its commitment to the education of immigrants and students from diverse backgrounds.

Center for Student Disability Services

Early Childhood Center Virtual Classroom

The Brooklyn College Early Childhood Center is currently offering virtual classrooms for children of students, faculty, and staff, ages infancy through 2nd grade.

Every class is designed to deliver asynchronous and synchronous developmentally appropriate learning activities and play based experiences as well as offer support and resources to Brooklyn College student parents and families. Some examples of activities offered include Puppetry in Practice sessions, mindfulness moments, cooking, yoga and read-alouds for all children as well as tutoring, homework help, and reading resources for school-aged children. Additionally, ECC teachers are available to answer questions and offer support about individual children's learning needs in a remote environment.

Food Pantry

The Food Pantry will be open for distribution on Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please make an appointment. Students can also apply for food vouchers. The Food Pantry and food vouchers are available in the Library Café.

Health Clinic

Telemedical and in-person health care appointments may be made by sending an e-mail, through BC WebCentral's e-services Student Affairs Help Tool (SAHT) for the BC Health Clinic, or by calling 718.951.5580. Please be sure to include your full name and phone number.

Immigrant Student Success Office | 718.951.5023 | Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

The Immigrant Student Success Office (ISSO) is happy to provide assistance to the Brooklyn College community by telephone and e-mail. ISSO can be reached by e-mailing Jesus Perez and/or Ana Bartolome. You may also call 718.951.5023. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

The Health Programs / Immunization Requirements Office ensures that students are in compliance with immunization regulation as stipulated in public health laws and will provide advocacy, education, communications, materials, workshops, and related culturally competent practices to enhance and advance the health and wellness of students.

Brooklyn College’s recreational facilities are currently closed until further notice, but staff are available if you need to speak to someone in person.

Student Emergency Grant

Students who have emergency financial needs can apply for Emergency Grants. The application can be submitted via the online form.

Student Support Case Manager

Appointments will be arranged with students for case-management services such as health insurance queries, SNAP benefits, help with food, housing issues, and other social service needs. Students may also contact the case manager via e-mail, text message: 207.200.8652, or online.

COVID-19 Case Collection Form

Complete this form if you suspect you may have been exposed to someone with coronavirus (COVID-19) or are experiencing the following symptoms: fever, cough, or difficulty breathing. This will help the college provide you with guidance about what you should do next.

If you are experiencing symptoms, call your health provider or 911 first. You can also call 311 to locate the closest city-operated hospital. For general questions about COVID-19, you are encouraged to review the NYC Department of Health website.
