Mubashir Shabil Billah
April 2012 winner
Mubashir Sabil Billah is a hard-working student majoring in chemistry. He is on the Dean's Honors List and is a member of the Coordinated B.A.-M.D. program. "I joined the B.A.-M.D. program because I was interested in chemistry when I attended Stuyvesant High School," he says.
Mubashir says his undergraduate experience at the college has been rewarding. Despite his busy schedule, giving back to the college and his hometown of Jamaica, Queens, has been a priority. He understands the importance of helping those who are in need and has volunteered numerous hours in his local community and the campus community.
One of his proudest accomplishments has been coaching a youth basketball team at his local community center. "I felt like I made a huge impact in my neighborhood because kids were off the streets, worked together as a team, and stayed away from bad influences,” he explains.
During his tenure at Brooklyn College, he has met amazing people, taken classes he enjoyed, competed with other CUNY colleges while on the men's tennis team, participated in the BC Speech and Debate Team, tutored for the Brooklyn College Academy, worked as a lab technician for the Physics Department, and received the Furman Tow Scholarship to study abroad in the Middle East. With such an impressive list of accomplishments, it is no wonder that he's being recognized for the Wall of Fame.
Mubashir graduates this spring with a B.A. in chemistry and a minor in computer science and finance. He will then start medical school at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
