Veteran and Military Programs

The Veteran and Military Programs Office supports, empowers, and encourages all veterans, service members, and their dependents and survivors through services and programs designed to:

  • ensure that all educational benefits and other entitlements are received,
  • assist in the transition from service to active contributing members of the campus, and
  • facilitate academic success, professional growth, and meaningful employment.

Veteran, service member, dependent, and survivor are defined in the following ways for CUNY data collection:

  • Veteran—One who was in active military service (including basic training) and was released under a condition other than “dishonorable.”
  • Service Member—A person currently serving in the armed forces of the United States, whether on active duty or reserve or in the National Guard.
  • Dependent—Spouses, children, or some other familial relationship of a veteran or service member or service member totally and permanently disabled by a service-connected disability.
  • Survivor—Spouses, children, or some other familial relationship of a veteran or service member who is deceased.

Military Benefits

  • Assistance with filing all G.I. Bill® benefits and entitlements. G.I. Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government website.
  • Certification and validation of educational benefits in compliance with current Veterans Administration regulations
  • Updated information regarding changes in educational benefits, federal laws, and support services
  • Advisement on additional entitlements under federal and state law regarding financial aid for war veterans

Returning From/Leaving for Active Duty

  • Veterans called to active duty must contact the Veteran and Military Programs Office to submit a copy of their orders.

Admissions Information

This page provides easy access to information about our programs of study, the admissions process, and other resources on campus. The Office of Admissions adheres to the Principles of Excellence Program guidelines outlined in the Presidential Executive Order in the recruitment and admission of veterans and their dependents. In addition, we advise service members to speak with an education services officer or counselor within their military service prior to enrolling at the college.

Admissions counselors are available to assist you with information about our programs, admissions requirements, and the admissions process. To meet with a counselor, come to the Office of Admissions or make a phone or in-person appointment.

Undergraduate Admissions Information

Application Fee Waiver Information

Undergraduate applicants who are veterans of the United States Military Service, currently on active duty, or members of the National Guard or Reserves may obtain an application fee waiver by answering the U.S. Military Status question on the CUNY application and submitting proof of their veteran/military status (e.g., DD-214, Current Military ID Card, or Deployment or Pre-separation orders). Send an e-mail if you have any questions.
