LGBTQ Resource Center

About Us

The LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning) Resource Center is both a welcoming space and supportive network for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual and/or ally (LGBTQIA) students, staff, and faculty at Brooklyn College. By fostering a culture of respect, advocacy, and empowerment, the center promotes an inclusive community where everyone is celebrated for who they are and has the opportunity to learn, work, and grow in a supportive environment. The center aims to bring together the talents of students, faculty, and staff for the express purpose of educating the campus community through academic programming, the arts, and entertainment about issues that affect the LGBTQIA community.

Statement from the Director of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center

It is difficult to find words that are not pithy sounding after the violence experienced in an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs near midnight November 19, 2022, on the eve Trans Day of Remembrance. The pain from the violent murders of at least five and injuries of at least 25 will last forever. Transphobia and homophobia are deeply held attitudes and beliefs against the rights of LGBTQIA+ people’s lives. These beliefs injure and, in this case, destroy the lives of other human beings.

As we move towards the holiday season and the end of the year, we might all work to face our fears and come to understand better what seems unknown and threatening. Let us have time to heal, then allow this act of violence to further embolden us to stand together, to educate each other, and to be proud.

We send out our condolences to those who have lost someone, and we send our thoughts and compassion to everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community at large who have all been affected by this. Please stop by the Center if you would like to talk or to simply light a candle and look out at the sky. We are here for you.
