Our Mission

All college employees, whether they be administrators, faculty, or staff of all levels, are the University’s most valuable resource in ensuring the success of our students. By investing in the professional skills, academic knowledge, personal development and cultural proficiency of CUNY employees, we are able to retain trained, knowledgeable, motivated, and engaged employees who then go on to better serve, teach, and lead our students.

About Us

The Professional Development and Learning (PDL) Office provides CUNY employees with professional development and training opportunities that are designed to enhance their knowledge, skills, and competencies. By providing these services, CUNY is able to attract, develop, and retain a high-performing workforce that continues to meet the University’s goals. Employees across the University are encouraged to participate in our professional development offerings to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities as they advance their careers.

DCAS Courses – Registration Process
Before registering for any professional development courses, staff must receive approval from their supervisor before submitting their registration form. Once approved by their supervisor, staff should complete the Professional Development Registration Form which can be found here. Once approved, a confirmation email will be sent from University.Training@cuny.edu to the employee and their supervisor within 7 business days. Please note that there are a maximum number of participants per session. Employees that are interested in a course should register as soon as possible in order to guarantee a seat.

If an employee cannot attend a course they have registered for, campus Human Resources should notify PDL via email (University.Training@cuny.edu) at least 10 days before the course begins so that a waitlisted employee can take the slot. If a campus cannot provide PDL with adequate notice, they also have the option of identifying a substitute employee who may attend in the registered employee’s absence. Campuses will be responsible for the course payment if proper notice is not given.

Campus On-Site Requests
Upon request, PDL works with campus Human Resources Offices and the Citywide Training Center (CTC) to arrange for professional development courses to be delivered on-site at your campus. To determine the course(s) that best meet your needs, please review the CTC Course Catalog first and then complete the Campus On-Site Form, indicating the course(s) you are interested in. Interested administrators should consult with their Human Resources Office before completing the form. Please note that costs for this service start at $2,000 per day of training.

LinkedIn Learning
Employees interested in acquiring LinkedIn Learning accounts for on-demand professional development opportunities, can do so by completing the LinkedIn Learning Request Form here.

After submitting the request in for a LinkedIn Learning license, a member of the Professional Development team will contact you within 10 business days with your account activation link. Please note that LinkedIn Learning accounts will be provided on a temporary basis. Employees will have access to their accounts for 3 weeks, starting from the date when the account activation email was sent out.

Please contact our office for any additional questions or requests.
