Education:
Ph.D., Indiana University - Bloomington - 1976 (Genetics)
B.S., Cornell University - 1968 (Genetics)
Areas of Expertise:
The Forest lab studies the cell and molecular biology of fertilization in algae. To understand how gametes (sperm and egg) recognize and fuse with each other, the lab is cloning genes that prevent gamete fusion. The lab hopes its studies will lead to a better understanding of the process of fertilization in other organisms, including humans. The lab is also looking at the mechanisms that control expression of gamete-specific genes.
