Professor Brooks has been administrative deputy chairperson for undergraduate programs, Department of English, since 2003. She has served as deputy for the English-as-a-Second-Language Program, English Department, 2002-03, and in the Department of Educational Services, Brooklyn College, 1980-94.

Areas of Expertise:
Brooks' major interests include applied linguistics, second language acquisition, composition and teacher education. She has written on "Evaluating ESL Writing," Making Peace: A Reading/Writing/Thinking/Text on Global Community, Into the Academic Mainstream: Guidelines for Teaching Language Minority Students, "Academic Advisement of ESL Students in Six Senior Colleges of CUNY," and "Case Studies of the Composing Processes of Five 'Unskilled' ESL College Writers."
