Joseph Thurm
Associate Professor
Computer and Information Science
Joseph Thurm has taught at Brooklyn College since 1975, particularly in the areas of database management and information systems. Thurm has also served as deputy chairman of the evening program of the Department of Computer and Information Science for many years and is active in evaluating student transfer credits and in counseling students in the CIS major.

Areas of Expertise:
The use of computing and information technology in organizations and industry. Thurm also focuses on the human interaction with the computer system and its impact on the success of that system. Many systems fail due to the lack of an intuitive user interface and proper transition despite the quality of the software.
Pedagogical Achievements
Developed graduate and undergraduate courses in management information systems that are taught at Brooklyn College and the CUNY School of Professional Studies. 2009
Community Activities
Helped develop a computer education curriculum for local religious school pro bono. Give daily classes in adult education pro bono. 2011
Visited a number of private high schools, advocating enrollment at Brooklyn College and promoting the value of a college education. This activity was begun in 2009 and continues to today. 2011
