Naomi Braine joined the faculty in September 2008. Previously, she worked in the nonprofit health and policy research sector, conducting research on harm reduction, drug use, HIV risk and prevention, and consulting for community-based organizations and the New York State Department of Health. Since joining the faculty, her interest in harm reduction and community action has come to focus more on issues related to women's health. Her professional work is deeply informed and shaped by a long history as a social justice activist.

Areas of Expertise:
Braine specializes in public health, collective action, work and organizations, research methods, gender and sexuality. In practice, the majority of her research has addressed community mobilization and public health, including organizational and policy issues affecting health and access to services at individual and community levels.
