Eleanor Miele began her career in research on RNA transcription and signal amplification. Her work as a science educator is informed by rich early learning experiences outside the classroom. Miele's aim is to increase motivation, skills and confidence in science teaching among elementary educators as well as teachers of middle and high school science. Toward this end she has forged numerous partnerships with cultural institutions to collaborate in teacher preparation. Her work integrating informal experiences with formal science educations has been supported by numerous grants from the National Science Foundation and the New York State Education Department. Her recent work focuses on developing communities of science learners comprised of in-service and pre-service teachers and students in public schools.
