Pre-College Courses

Take advantage of a great opportunity to get a head start exploring college life and career possibilities! Pre-college classes are open to qualifying 10th–12th graders. All classes typically meet on Saturday mornings, 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. on the beautiful Brooklyn College campus.* High school credit may be offered at the school’s discretion. *Courses currently meet remotely. A gradual return to hybrid/in-person instruction is anticipated, timeframe TBD.

Fall Pre-College Courses

  • Current Issues—Dynamic social/political science course exploring issues such as police brutality, climate change, war, and civic engagement while building research, writing, and argumentation skills.
  • Green Monster—Discover the amazing array of plants, animals, and ecosystems thriving in New York City’s urban forests! Learn how human activity is impacting living things in New York’s communities and what we can do to protect them.

Spring Pre-College Courses

  • Backyard Toxicology—Urban environmental studies course exploring the impacts of exposure to toxins in our daily lives with focus on basic concepts, research, and writing skills.
  • Why Do People Do What They Do?—Engaging media studies and psychology course investigating topics related to personality, motivation, and identity, through autobiographical writing, readings, and discussions in psychology, education, poetry, and fiction.
