CBSE 2002 Children and Youth in Urban Education: Developmental, Psychological and Sociological Perspectives
3 hours recitation, 20 hours field experience; 3 credits
Relationships between developmental psychology, and sociological processes of children and youth and their educational experiences in schools, families and communities. Role of culture, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, and social class in the context of biological, sociological and psychological processes. Emphasis on children and adolescents in urban, multicultural schools, including students with special needs and English language learners, from birth through adolescence. Fieldwork in a variety of educational sites; observations and interviews of children; continuation of portfolio development; reflection upon field experiences of 20 hours. This course is the same as SEED 2002.
Prerequisite or corequisite: CBSE 2001.
