We received word via Professor Bruce MacIntyre from Pamela McClain of the recent publication of a memorial ‘Festschrift’ in honor/memory of her father, BC Conservatory Professor Emeritus Ernest McClain. She included the following announcement:

Dear friends, BIBALites, and fans of Ernest:

It is with great pleasure and some relief, mostly in that order, that I announce today, Ernest McClain’s 100th birthday, the completion of editing on the book Music and Deep Memory: Speculations in Ancient Mathematics, Tuning, and Tradition. In Memoriam Ernest G. McClain, edited by Bryan Carr and Richard Dumbrill.

Contributions from Jean Le Mee, Leon Crickmore, Jay Kappraff, Sarah Reichart, Vivian Ramalingam, Petur Halldorsson, Anne Bulckens, Richard Heath, John Bremer, Bryan Carr, Babette Babich, Pete Dello, Richard Dumbrill, Howard Schatz, and Gerald Turchetto

Published by ICONEA Publications, London.

All contributors should receive a PDF of the book with this e-mail. If you do not, or if you have any difficulty in opening the file (which may happen), please inform me.

The process has been a slow labor of love. Thank you all for the patience you have manifested. Thanks too to those who contributed, and all who gave assistance. Naturally we take responsibility for whatever editorial errors remain; we simply recall what Ernest reminded us:  tuning anything perfectly is impossible.

Sincerely,

Bryan Carr

Attached should be two PDFs, one of the cover and one of the book. The PDFs are watermarked copies for contributors. (ICONEA does not distribute unprotected copies by e-mail.) At Richard Dumbrill’s request, I am sending this to each contributor. A general announcement will also be made.

The book is also now generally available for purchase. Follow this link to order.
