About the Conservatory
Welcome to one of New York City's leading institutions in the training of musicians. We invite you to join the ranks of those ready to make significant contributions to the changing world of the twenty-first century.
Students at the Conservatory of Music study with a distinguished faculty of prominent performers, composers, musicologists, theorists, and music-education specialists, in addition to a prestigious roster of guest artists. Students and faculty participate in over 150 public concerts on campus every year, with a broad range of offerings, from jazz, chamber, choral, and contemporary music to operas and symphonies.
Our faculty are proud of the strong curriculum that is central to an education at the Conservatory. Undergraduate Music majors receive not only top-notch training in aural skills, music theory, analysis, and performance, but also a first-rate liberal arts education. Conservatory students are encouraged to explore the College's rich offerings in the liberal arts and sciences, and to work with artists and scholars in film and video, theater, television and radio, interactive media arts (PIMA), and other fields. Our Walter Gerboth Music Library is among the finest in CUNY. Thus, our programs attract a diverse student body that includes many from other states and a large international presence.
Because Brooklyn College is part of the City University of New York (CUNY), our master's students have the opportunity to take one or more of their seminars at other senior colleges of CUNY, as well as at The Graduate Center of CUNY, which awards doctoral degrees in music.
When you come to Brooklyn College to complete your music degree, you will be joining the ranks of many illustrious alumni who studied here and went on to become major contributors to music - from Broadway pit musicians and music teachers in local schools, to studio-recording musicians, music librarians, performers and composers for the NY City Opera and the New York Philharmonic, musicologists, musicians for Jazz at Lincoln Center, and McArthur Scholars - among many others.
Please take a moment to look over the details of our programs and contact us for further information.
