Adjunct Professor, Clarinet.
Exhilarating virtuosity and imagination that compliment his "gracious sense of style and excellent musical personality" have become trademarks for the young clarinetist Igor Begelman. Winner of year 2000 Avery Fisher Career Grant, the award given to outstanding American artists, he has performed recitals in the United States, Europe, Japan and Israel and as a soloist with such orchestras as the Houston, Savannah and New Haven Symphonies, Boston Classical Orchestra, as well as the Odense Simfoniker and L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Equally accomplished as a soloist and chamber musician, Mr. Begelman has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and at festivals throughout the world including Marlboro, Caramoor, Tanglewood and Schleswig-Holstein.
Aside from performing the traditional literature of the clarinet repertoire as well as numerous transcriptions, he has premiered compositions by such composers as Jennifer Higdon, Ralph Shapey, Meyer Kupferman, Anton Kuerti, Elliot Schwartz and Roland Tec. Mr. Begelman is Professor of Clarinet at the North Carolina School of the Arts and Brooklyn College. His association with the Piatigorsky Foundation allows him to perform classical music in less traditional settings.
