2013 Conservatory Concerto Competition

Feb. 11, 2013

The results are in from this year's exciting Conservatory Concerto Competition and we have a winner! Twelve competitors, five faculty panelists, and audience members braved inclement weather this past Friday, February 8, to hold the competition in Whitman Theater. Prof. George Rothman, as the Conservatory Orchestra's conductor and Coordinator of Performance, ran the show and issued the following notice:

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to report that we were able to complete yesterday's Conservatory Annual Concerto Competition despite the storm and the decision to close the campus half way through the competition. We had the strongest competition pool we've ever had with 12 finalists competing. It really needs to be stated that the Conservatory presently has a very strong group of very dedicated performers who are extremely serious about their performance studies. The culture that we've strived to develop was exemplified by yesterday's high-level performances.

The winner of this year's competition is Marcel Krasner for his outstanding performance of the Dvorak Cello Concerto. As the winner, he will perform the full concerto in concert with the orchestra on Saturday, April 13th at 7:30 in Whitman Hall. I hope all of you will be able to attend and let your classes know as well. Marcel and all of this year's competitors deserve special recognition for their hard work and musical development. Please join us in congratulating all of the following competitors:

  • Mikhail Pais
  • Devin Cholodenko
  • Alexander Tasopoulos
  • Yea Ji Kwak
  • Kyulee Seo
  • Emanule De Biase
  • Marcel Krasner
  • Laura Vuksinich
  • Evgeni Ninov
