Gothamist Internship
Gothamist offers our readers a snapshot of the city today through a curated selection of stories across news (such as local politics, mass transit, gentrification), art and culture (from street art to museum exhibits), and food (less insidery, more approachable). Many stories are at intersection of each other, such as pointing out a beloved restaurant's closing due to the unaffordable real estate market or a historical look at New York through an exhibit of vintage photographs.
Description of the Internship and Application Requirements
Gothamist is looking for enthusiastic interns with strong writing and Web-publishing skills—self-starters with an interest in writing about New York who tend to be omnivorous consumers of information. Our stories are a mix of blogging and aggregating as well as wholly original stories and essays from reporting. Digital experience is strongly encouraged.
Responsibilities vary widely, but overall we encourage journalism students with a high metabolism for storytelling and a passion for New York to apply.
Our interns typically:
- Assist reporters and editors with research.

- Pitch ideas / receive assignments.
- Report and/or photograph from the field.
- Write at least one story with a byline.
