July Andrea Medina Triana

July Andrea Medina Triana successfully defended her M.S. thesis on April 20. An interactive story map of her thesis, “Heritage Sites Under Threat: Impacts of Climate Change in Barbuda, Lesser Antilles Using Geospatial Archaeology for Community Empowerment,” can be accessed online.

Her research, along with other research conducted by her thesis adviser, Associate Professor Rebecca Boger, will be showcased at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition, Biennale Architettura 2018, in Venice, Italy, this May through October. The theme for this year’s event is freespace. Triana and Boger have been working with architects in Antigua and Barbuda for the Barbuda exhibit component using datasets compiled for research in Barbuda.

Kayla Irazarry

Kayla Irazarry (Matthew Garb, adviser) was awarded the Rosen Fellowship ($5,000) for her work on the K/Pg boundary in Texas this summer.

Shannon Brophy

Shannon Brophy (Matthew Garb, adviser) received three grants to assist her research related to Late Cretaceous methane seep ecology in the Pierre Shale of South Dakota for the next year: the National Geographic Research Grant ($2,090), the Association of Applied Paleontological Sciences (AAPS) James R. Welch Scholarship ($1,000), and the GSA Student Research Grant ($1,700).
