What Our Interns Have to Say on Their Court Interpreting Experience
"The court interpreting internships taught me that being bilingual in today's society is in more demand than ever. Allowing someone's story to be properly interpreted will make a difference in how justice is being served."—Amanda R., Secondary Education in Spanish Major
"Everyone has a right to seek justice. Not being able to speak a language should not stop you. Being bilingual does not make you an interpreter. This internship has taught me that to be a great interpreter you have to know your role, be neutral, and don't allow your emotions to get in the way."—Cherly T., Television and Radio and Spanish Major
"The internship in court interpreting helped me see that we can be a bridge between the impossible and the possible. To help those who need it, and get on the same line of defense as others."—Cynthia V.
"Being given the opportunity to participate in the internship program helped me realize just how much interpreters are truly needed in our court system, specifically because of what they are really providing: equality. By providing other languages, we help to ensure that there is equality for all, even those who cannot speak the language."—Angelica S.
"Participating in the court interpreter internship program allowed me to see professional immigrants in demand and in power. This internship directly provided me with a sense of belonging and a clear pathway to obtaining my career."—Elisa N., Sociology Major
"Participating in the court interpreter internship taught me a great deal about how our courts work, and how interpreters go about their jobs. It gave me a lot of respect for the people that process language for multiple individuals at the same time to ensure the basic right of language access. While I found that this career wasn’t for me, I learned skills that will benefit me in my professional path for years to come."—Kenny F., Spanish and Spanish Translation Major
