Albena Lutzkanova-Vassileva is an assistant professor of English and comparative literature. Her major areas of interest are 20th-century English and East European literatures, Romanticism, critical theory and philosophy, semiotics and culture. She is currently working on a book project, entitled Reference, Trauma, and History: The Testimonies of American and Russian Postmodernisms. In it, she challenges the belief that postmodern literature and deconstructive writing have cut off literary discourse from reality, and reads the often incoherent production of postmodern writers as testimony to a traumatic post-industrial (technological) or post-totalitarian (ideological) reality.
