Role of discourse and power in the constitution of identity and politics. Binary relationship between power/knowledge, local/universal, inclusion/exclusion, religion/secular, rational/irrational, Islam/modernity. Political and social theories that deal with modernity, post modernity, language, gender, race, class, and ethnicity in the formation of identities and practices. This course is the same as Political Science 3413 [78.8].
Prerequisite: Political Science *1001 [1.51] or Political Science *1002 [1.7] or Core Curriculum 1230 [2.3] or Religion 3003 [1.1] or Religion 3005 [1.2].
