Readings from (a) medieval epic: The Song of Roland, The Cid, the Nibelungenlied and (b) Arthurian literature: the Welsh Mabinogion, Geoffrey's History of the Kings of Britain, the narratives of Chretien de Troyes and Marie de France, Gottfried's Tristan, and Wolfram's Parzival. Summary accounts of the literary histories of Iceland, Ireland, Wales, and Provence.
Prerequisite or corequisite: Engish 1010 [1] or 1.7.
