Professor Alonso specializes in late 19th-century intellectual history and modernism in literature. His most recent publication is an article on Spanish Decadent Novel, La sirena negra. His current research deals with regionalism, nationalism and literature in Spanish novels. He is also working on a project on the construction of Spanish literary institutions during the Modernist period.
