POLS 3125 Constitutional Interpretation

Explores the content, aims and variants of the Constitution, and its role in the political system. Considers which actors are best positioned to interpret the Constitution. Explores originalism, textualism, prudentialism, structuralism, doctrinalism. Discusses the limitations and possibilities of each. Considers the role that educated citizens take play in constitutional interpretation in order to ensure the vitality of a strong democracy.
Prerequisite: Core Studies 3 or Core Curriculum 1230 or Political Science 1001 or 1002 or 1003 or 1004 or 1005 or 1006, or English 1010 or equivalent, or permission of department.
