U.S. Southwest annexation. Historical antecedents including Spanish colonialism, Mexico?s independence, and War with Mexico. Migration, labor exploitation, segregation, and deportation. U.S./Mexican drug wars. Communities in 21st century. Chicano movement & identity formation, civil rights, politics and culture. Demographic expansion throughout U.S.Intra-group race, gender, class dynamics.
Prerequisite: Puerto Rican and Latino Studies *1001 or Core Studies 3 or 9 or Core Curriculum 1230 or Core Curriculum 3203.
