Study Abroad and Open Up a World of Opportunities

Study Abroad Updates - April 1, 2022

Students who wish to study abroad this coming Summer 2022 and Fall 2022 are now eligible to petition to travel (pdf) to countries with Department of State and CDC COVID-19 risk assessments of Level 3 or below:

  • Department of States Travel Advisory
  • CDC Risk Assessment Level for COVID-19

Undergraduates who do not meet current CUNY vaccination standards are not eligible to petition.

All individual international travel must be approved by the petition process. Please submit the Petition to Travel in time to avoid making any financial or logistical commitments before the petition has been reviewed and approved. Read carefully the refund policy and deadlines of your program of interest to make sure you are not financially committing to a program until your petition and destination are approved.

Please register for classes at Brooklyn College to avoid missing out on your first choice courses in case your study abroad plans do not work out.

Please contact us if you have any questions:

Summer 2022 Study Abroad Programs

This coming summer, Brooklyn College is not running its own study abroad programs. If you are interested in going abroad this summer, carefully read our updates above. You may apply to any program of your choice as long as the program destination meets the following:

Students who wish to study abroad this coming Summer 2022 and Fall 2022 are now eligible to petition to travel (pdf) to countries with Department of State and CDC COVID-19 risk assessments of Level 3 or below:

  • Department of States Travel Advisory
  • CDC Risk Assessment Level for COVID-19

Most European countries (France, Spain, Italy, England…) are at Level 4 right now, but there is a chance that the travel advisory will change to Level 3 or below in the coming weeks. If that is the case, then your petition to travel will be approved, and you will be able to study abroad.

Students should consider programs through other CUNY campuses, SUNY campuses, study abroad providers, or via a direct enrollment at the host university abroad.  Note that your chosen program must be for 3 weeks or more.

Summer 2022 Application Steps

  • Discuss your plans with a study abroad advisor.
  • Submit a petition to travel (pdf).
  • Apply to your program of interest.
  • Once your travel petition is approved, pay your program fees.
  • Purchase your flight and your CUNY medical and travel insurance.

Studying abroad for a short term, semester, or year helps strengthen your curriculum, provides global experience, expands your horizons and opportunities, allows you to learn or practice a foreign language, and earns credit toward your degree.

Students are not limited to only Brooklyn College administered programs. They may choose to participate in study abroad programs through other CUNY institutions.  Visit the CUNY Online Directory of Study Abroad Programs for a full searchable database of CUNY programs that are available.

Students may also choose to participate in programs through other accredited universities and organizations outside of CUNY.
